These are not necessarily secret places. They are places worth slowing down for — communities, landscapes and small pieces of Barbados that can easily be missed.
Fishing · Local Life · St. John
Conset Bay is not about a polished attraction. It is a working east-coast fishing community where boats, fishermen and the sea remain part of everyday life.
Come for the harbour atmosphere, the views and a glimpse of a part of Barbados that visitors can easily drive past on their way somewhere else.
Craft · Village · St. Andrew
Chalky Mount sits high in the landscape of St. Andrew, surrounded by the folds and ridges of the Scotland District.
The village has a long connection with pottery and local clay, but the journey, hillside community and views are part of the reason to come. This is a very different Barbados from the flat coral landscape found across much of the island.
Nature · History · Bridgetown
In the middle of Bridgetown stands an enormous baobab — a tree associated with Africa and one of the most striking natural landmarks hidden inside the city.
Visitors can pass close to Queen's Park without knowing it is there. It is the sort of unexpected stop that makes you look at Bridgetown differently.
Heritage · Town · St. Peter
Slow down around the older waterfront side of Speightstown. The sea, boardwalk, historic buildings, shops and everyday activity give the town a character very different from the resort areas farther south.
This is less about checking off a landmark and more about walking, looking and experiencing one of Barbados' old towns at its own pace.
Our approach
Off the Beaten Path is about places with character, context and a connection to everyday Barbados. We will add them selectively rather than trying to turn every corner of the island into an attraction.
