The story
A command point at the heart of the old Garrison.
The Main Guard is one of the Garrison's most recognizable historic buildings. Built in the early 19th century, it formed part of the command and security system for the large British military establishment based here.
Its position beside the Savannah placed it at the centre of daily Garrison life. The building's Georgian character and prominent clock tower made it both practical and symbolic — a place associated with order, military routine and administration.
Today the Main Guard remains an important landmark and is associated with the Barbados Legion and Barbados Poppy League.
