The story
From colonial fortification to modern defence headquarters.
St. Ann's Fort predates the formal establishment of the wider Garrison. Construction began in the early 18th century, and the fort later became central to the major British military complex that developed around the Savannah.
The site remains connected to defence today: St. Ann's Fort is the headquarters of the Barbados Defence Force and the Barbados Regiment.
The Garrison is also known for its historic cannon collection. The surviving guns and royal markings help explain the scale of the defensive network once used to protect Bridgetown and Carlisle Bay.
